United Kingdom: A neighbourhood food bank for people in need

Nutritionally balanced meals for vulnerable families.

Households living on the poverty line often struggle to afford balanced and nutritious diet. In the town of Milton Keynes in Buckinghamshire, England, a local food bank provides support to families in need through emergency food parcels that are available from a shop manned by volunteers from the community.

Employees from the local Givaudan plant have had a long-term relationship with the food bank, contributing to food donations and acting as volunteers. Having seen that it can be difficult for those using the food bank to know how to turn donated items into balanced meals, Givaudan employees and chefs developed a series of eight nutritionally balanced meal boxes accompanied by recipe cards.

Each kit contains a step by step picture recipe card and all the necessary ingredients to create a nutritionally balanced meal for a family of four. More than 1100 kits have been compiled by Givaudan employees and 4400 people attending the food bank have benefitted from this initiative.

I am humbled by the continued efforts of the team to deliver this project. It has also been heartwarming to see the positive feedback from the recipients of the meal kits. We have impacted many with our efforts and this makes us very happy.
