USA: Supporting adults with autism

Cooking activities as a means to contribute to their independence.

Autism is a disorder that notably affects social abilities and communication skills. Its form can greatly vary from one person to another, with some people requiring more support in their daily lives than others.

USA - Our House FoundationIn New Jersey, to support the development and autonomy in daily lives of adults living with autism, we financed the construction of a new kitchen in a centre that provides housing, employment, and social services to individuals with developmental disabilities. This kitchen, which was fully completed in 2020 despite challenges due to COVID-19, will notably serve for cooking activities where Givaudan volunteers will teach a variety of recipes to the adults living in the centre.

Workshops teaching how to make pizza and pasta already took place and were a starting point to create a bond between Givaudan people and the adults from the specialised centre.
