Mexico: Empowering women through professional training and wellbeing
Empowering a group of weaving women while raising awareness about self-care
In the rural communities of Pedro Escobedo, indigenous women encounter various obstacles, including labour market discrimination making it difficult for them to generate sustainable income. To address this, we've partnered with Givaudan volunteers and an organization specialized in community development to enhance these women’s business opportunities. This involves imparting advanced sewing skills and offering business coaching. Additionally, upgraded sewing materials and office supplies will be granted to support their endeavours.

Furthermore, the initiative addresses challenges faced by women in these communities regarding menstrual self-care and lack of access to hygiene products due to cost. This leads to school absenteeism and parental struggles due to a limited knowledge of the topic. Our volunteers offer education and tools to enhance the understanding of women's health, with educational sessions and the donation of reusable menstruation products.
Opening doors to industrial work for women in Pedro Escobedo
We are also supporting women – many who are heads of their households – with hands-on training, certification and career guidance to help them enter warehouse and industrial roles traditionally dominated by men. Half of the participants have already secured employment, taking an important step away from informal work and towards greater stability for themselves and their families.

Givaudan Mexico volunteers played an important role in the programme, running interactive sessions on workplace skills, safety, and professional wellbeing. They helped mentor participants, offering practical guidance and encouragement every step of the way.
